The problem
Every payment starts from zero.
Two agents meet over a protocol like x402, and one has to pay first. Neither has a history with the other: no record of who pays late, who reneges, who's reliable. So the default is always the same: pay upfront, every time.
Fine for a single API call. It breaks down once agents need to batch work, extend credit, or choose who's worth dealing with at all.
